Homemade Laser Sniper Rifle

It's been another exciting summer for the team at Esco Optics! With a schedule chock full of charity events, golfball launchers and product releases, you may have thought we forgot to tally your votes from SPIE Photonics West to determine the next DIY laser invention of YouTuber Styropyro (next laser invention (0:31).  Well, the votes were counted, sketches made, elbow grease applied and with the incorporation of custom aspherical lenses supplied by Esco Optics, “The Laser Sniper Rifle” was born.   

The challenge in making a laser sniper rifle is that you have to focus the laser beam on an object very far away. Now, you may be thinking, how about laser pointers? Don’t they do the exact same thing? What’s so special about this creation? The difference is simple, very…precise…engineering, because laser pointers aren’t powerful enough to burn through wood or cause explosions and, as we’ve learned, Styropyro will accept nothing less. We offer congratulations on another awesome build!  We’ll be here for the next one and look forward to seeing our optics shine.
