Fred Keglovits celebrates 35 years at Esco Optics

Posted by Jason Wickersham on

This past February, Esco Optics was proud to honor our sales manager, Fred Keglovits, as he celebrated his 35th anniversary of employment with the company.  Since his date of hire on February 14th, 1979, Fred has made remarkable strides in moving up and building lasting relationships both internally and within our customer base.  Over the past three decades, Keglovits has witnessed Esco’s growth, and has contributed to it first-hand through unwavering determination and passion.

Today, as sales manager, Keglovits works directly with our customers, some of whom he has been in contact with for over two decades.  While nearly all of his years at Esco have been spent working in the sales department, he didn’t start out there.  In the winter of 1979, Keglovits saw an ad for a position at Esco requesting help in the stock room.  Despite having no experience in the optics industry, he applied and was offered the job.

From that point, Keglovits was immediately thrust into his daily routine at Esco, which required him to become familiarized with optical components and materials right away.  Through his required tasks of managing inventory and routing jobs for the shop floor, Keglovits developed a keen understanding of the procedures involved in manufacturing optical components.  It was his hands-on approach and quick learning skills that led him to be offered a position in sales in just one year.

For many years, Keglovits worked alongside Gary Steneken, who at the time was the president and owner of Esco.  As the optics industry grew and developed, so too did Keglovits’ knowledge and skills.  With his personable approach to business, Keglovits has been able to facilitate longstanding relationships with clients, all the while encouraging new customers through his willingness to help and answer questions.

His approach to success is simple: “I come in everyday and try to be the best I can be,” Keglovits says.  He explains that he also tries to treat others in a manner that allows them to be their best selves as well.  Anyone who has ever had the pleasure to correspond with Kegolvits can relate – his emails, phone conversations, and encounters are always personalized for whomever he is communicating with.  Even in today’s world of business, where brevity is paramount, Keglovits exemplifies what it means to take the time to connect with others, instead of just retrieving or relaying information.  Despite the many daily demands required of him in his position, he makes the time to speak with other Esco employees and customers alike.

Keglovits has seen Esco develop throughout the years – namely, when the company changed hands in 2011 and Gary’s son, Lee Steneken, took over as president.  “I am proud to still be working for this family,” Keglovits says.  A devout family man himself, Keglovits understands the importance of family values and connectivity.

In his free time, Keglovits enjoys spending time at his second home in Lake George with his wife, Maxine.  Together they have two adult children – a son and a daughter.  Keglovits is an ardent music lover and also enjoys spending time outside walking a path on The Appalachian Trail, which runs nearby his New Jersey home.
