A witness sample is a sacrificial test piece of optical material to measure the performance of a thin film coating. Witness samples are essential to maintaining accuracy, repeatability, and traceability of deposition thin film coatings. They measure the transmission and reflectivity of a given coating design while also providing indicative samples used to quantify the durability and resistance to environmental degradation from the influences of humidity, temperature, and salt exposure.

We’ve committed to stock a wide variety of optical glasses and crystals across a range of refractive indices.  These products are available in three variations, Transmission, Reflection and 8º Wedge which allows coating houses to choose the material type and configuration that best matches their application.
